A Special Message for All Our Donors...(continued)

“I Have a Passion For This Place!”

Steve is a high school sophomore who loves working with kids and has the dream of becoming a teacher.

He was introduced to the Boys & Girls Club of Pasadena through the Rose Program, sponsored by the City of Pasadena, which helps teenagers get jobs during the summer.

Steve didn’t want a desk or office job, and jumped at the chance to work at the Boys & Girls Club.

He loved the environment so much that he decided to volunteer his time as a 16 year old during the school year. “We give the kids the best attention we can. Every staff person puts the kids first. We make sure we give our full effort to them. These kids mean a lot to us. We’re here for them,” Steve says with passion.

Steve was tremendously impressed with how the Boys & Girls Clubs provide a safe environment for kids to grow up . . . but also with how the Clubs always put the emphasis on helping kids with their school work through after-school mentoring and tutoring programs. “It’s not just a place to play games. But we do have a pool here, and a gym, and a teen center, so kids get plenty of exercise.”

Steve’s goal is “to go to college to study to get a degree in working with kids. Then, I want to come back to the Boys & Girls Club as a staff member and help out these kids.

Because they’re the future. We gotta help them out!”
